I created this school girl chic look with my favorite staple piece, my vintage Chanel suspenders! I got them from Ebay in like… 🤔 2008-ish, for about $300. It was such a splurge for me at the time. I was working my first real job as an assistant designer at Jimmy’z which was a sub-division of Aeropostale. It was an entry level position with entry level pay! This was also when Ebay was the shit and I was going thru a crazy Ebay faze. These suspenders were my first designer piece and at the time I felt so guilty for spending that much on something that I couldn’t even wear everyday.
I know some of you may be side eyeing me about spending $300 but you have to take into account that this was a different time. Not too long after making this purchase, I remember going into the Louis Vuitton store to price out a wallet. I randomly asked for the price of the small speedy bag and IT WAS LIKE $550 (give or take) !!!! What brand new Louis bag are you getting for that much today??
